History:

This aircraft, serial number 1490, registration number N27336 came off the production line in June 1940. It was fitted with a sixty horse power Franklin engine and was designated as a 60 TF. It later received an engine upgrade with a Continental A 65-8 engine, resulting in the new designation of 65 TC. The aircraft experienced a ground loop incident in 1960, which resulted in damage to the left wing and fuselage. The aircraft was repaired by Floyd Watson in accordance with CAM18, and returned to service. The aircraft was out of service from 1968 through 2002. It was restored and returned to service in July 23, 2002.

RESTORATION DETAILS:

The restoration of the aircraft began four (4) years ago. The frame was powder coated, the wings were reworked, new control cables installed and the entire aircraft has been recovered using the Stits Poly-Fiber System. Also the fuselage has been wired for lights among other things. This aircraft was never pressed into military service and is marked in the livery of a WTS aircraft. The A 65-8 engine has never had a major overhaul but has had a top overhaul 55.3 hours ago. Two new Slick magnetos and a new wire harness have been installed to increase reliability. The aircraft itself is now in “like new” condition with low time on the engine. The restoration has been lovingly undertaken by the Spirit of Tulsa Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) over the past 4 years. All known issues have been resolved to “new” condition yet preserving the aircraft to its original condition.
