Code 1 Aviation offers professional-level L-39 Ground School and Flight Training, recognized by the warbird community as among the very best available. Their staff of ex-military instructors also offers FAR 61.58 Proficiency checks, upset training, demo flights, aerobatic training, and formation training. L-39 mechanic training is also available. Code 1 Aviation is located directly across from the Courtesy Aircraft ramp at the Rockford, IL airport (KRFD).

AEA Program: Ed Finnegan is currently authorized to conduct practical tests and issue a Temporary Airman’s Certificate containing the AEA endorsement for the Grumman OV-1 Mohawk, the Aero Vodochody L-29, the Aero Vodochody L-39, and the North American T-28 Trojan. This training is required in order to receive the proper endorsement to operate these types of aircraft. FAR 61.58 proficiency checks are also available.

Gauntlet Warbirds is a warbird, aerobatic and tailwheel training center at the Aurora Airport, just west of downtown Chicago. Our instructors specialize in transitioning pilots of all experience levels to high-performance piston and jet aircraft.

Gauntlet Warbird’s fleet consists of a T-6, an L-39 Albatros, an Extra 300, a Super Decathlon and Standard Decathlon which is available for solo rental.
